How and When it Happens
The beginning of your journey to Brighter and Whiter Teeth
During your initial visit we will check your medical background and the dentist will ensure that you are suitable for the Zoom 2 whitening process. It is important to note that if you have any damaged teeth or gum disease, these problems will need to be corrected before we begin the whitening process.
You should also be aware that dentures, crowns or fillings will not whiten with any whitening system.
The next step is to make an appointment at Appledore Dental Clinic for a full examination with one of our dentists. You need to be conscious that if you already have white teeth, the difference will not be as spectacular as if you have dark teeth. The dentist will also give you important instructions in regards to what you can and cannot eat for 24 hours after your Zoom 2 treatment.
When you are ready to proceed with your Zoom 2 whitening process.
It is common for most people to need to have a hygiene visit first to remove the superficial stains so that you get the best results from the Zoom 2 process. Again this can be done at your regular dentist, or we can arrange for you to see our hygienist. After you have had your hygiene visit you can then book your Zoom 2 treatment.

Zoom 2 Whitening Day
We ask you to make sure that you are not in a rush on the day of your whitening, so that we can give you the finest treatment. If you attend early, you can have a nice cup of tea or coffee before we begin, because you will not be able to have one after we start.
If you like bring along some music so that you have something to listen to while you are being Zoomed.
Before we start the process we will have some photos taken to check the original shade of your teeth. After this, we will ask you to brush your teeth with special toothpaste. You don’t need to bring a toothbrush from home as we supply one. The purpose of this is to remove the protein layer from the surface of your teeth so that the whitening agent will work. You will then return to the surgery and the dentist or hygienist will seat you in the dental chair and start to play your music.
After your Zoom 2 Whitening
We ask you not to smoke, eat or drink anything with colouring for the next 24 hours, as your teeth stay porous until the normal protein layer builds up once more.
In some cases the build up of the protein layer and rehydration of the teeth will make your teeth look a little darker than when we took your final photos, but they should not go back to their original colour. We would expect the whitening to last for 2 years in most cases, however if you are a heavy smoker, or drink a lot of black tea, coffee or red wine, this may not be the case.
Teeth can stain quickly due to peoples diet, and you may need to have regular top ups. Appledore recommend the use of a nightguard with whitening gel and can provide you with a set of these after your Zoom procedure if required.
