Just when I thought I was a lost cause, as my teeth were in such terrible shape from childhood and not through any fault of my own, my dentist referred me to Dr. Teresa Day at the Appledore Clinic in Milton Keynes which was just half an hour from where I had moved to. My dentist seemed quite adamant that something could be done. But I had to be referred to the right person. And this person was Dr. Teresa Day.
I felt for the first time in my life a tiny glimmer of hope but I was still apprehensive due to the severity of my case and just two years before the Big Day. I reluctantly made an appointment at the Appledore Clinic to see Dr. Day but as soon as I arrived into reception I just knew I had done the right thing. I was greeted so warmly by the staff and felt so bad that I couldn't smile back at them.
On a questionnaire they provided to me I answered 'zero' on a scale of 0-10 for 'how satisfied are you with your smile'? I really was at rock bottom. Not only was my wedding just two years away but I had just been promoted at work to a role which involved contact with a number of important clients. With no confidence to even smile, how on earth would I cope?
Dr. Day made me feel so comfortable and any self-consciousness I had about my smile seemed to evaporate as soon as I sat in the chair. She really empathised with me and provided this amazing sense of assurance that something could be done. Dr. Day's expertise really shone through and I even started to feel excited about the results. But how would they be achieved I still wondered? Dr. Day didn't propose a treatment plan to me there and then. She did the necessary investigations to carefully consider my case further. Just a couple of weeks later Dr. Day outlined for me in the smallest of detail the entire plan that would transform my smile. I knew more than anyone that I wouldn't just turn into Julia Roberts overnight but I could see that the treatment proposed would produce a pretty dramatic result.
The plan involved a metal brace to make space, Invisalign treatment for at least 18 months, two implants and teeth whitening. Dr. Day was adamant that I wouldn't need to remove any of my own teeth. We were simply going to work with what I already had in order to achieve that perfect symmetry and volume. I explained to Dr. Day that I thought I needed a nose job. She explained that it was more because of the position of my teeth and my jaw line than
it was anything to do with my nose. It hadn't even occurred to me that this would be like a mini-facelift! What more could I ask for?
I trusted Dr. Day immediately. I was given the choice of metal braces or an increasingly popular technology known as Invisalign. Of course, this was to be a bigger investment, but my job was so important to me I really wanted to go with the Invisalign option for both top and bottom teeth. At first you feel a little dubious as to how plastic moulds could ever move your teeth.
I was absolutely astonished with the gradual changes going on in my mouth. And best of all? Nobody ever noticed me wearing them!
Gradually I started to not only look different but also feel different. I'd started getting braver with the odd smile here and there which would reveal my braces but as they were clear I had absolutely nothing to worry about! I actually felt very proud that I had even embarked on this journey.
The implants were the last steps in the process and again I was made to feel so relaxed and given the right level of anaesthetic to help me through. I looked forward to every visit. All the staff at Appledore clinic knew me by my name and I received encouragement from everybody there and especially from Dr. Day who was doing a mighty fine job of my smile.
The treatment was complete two weeks ahead of my wedding. Everything had been timed absolutely perfectly and the teeth whitening just topped off the finished product perfectly.
I felt like a completely different person. I had to pinch myself every time I looked in the mirror.
People would comment all the time about my teeth and my smile and I would even be asked if I had changed something about my face!
My now husband even got to see me smile properly and I was able to express my emotions physically through proper laughter when before I always held back.
This was beyond my wildest dreams given my situation just two years previously. It may seem like a long time but everyone knows how time passes quickly and I can't imagine what would have happened if I hadn't seized the opportunity when I did.
I felt privileged to have successfully used Invisalign which has completely changed the landscape of treatment using braces. Such a clever technology that had the smallest of impact on my daily life. I would just have to remove when eating and they were very easy to clean and maintain.
It was the single best investment I have ever made. Nowadays I smile naturally for photos and a good smile has helped me achieve continued success in my career.
My story is a testament to Dr. Day who applied her capabilities and strengths so perfectly to my case.

"Having had two failed root canal treatments, numerous abscesses and, finally, an extraction of the offending front tooth, I associated visits to the dentist with pain, bewilderment and a fair amount of trepidation.
Even when Dr Teresa Day and Appledore were recommended to me for a dental implant, I assumed I'd have to endure more of the same to get the smile I desperately wanted. I couldn't have been more wrong.
Dr Day and her staff couldn't have been friendlier or more caring.
Every aspect of my treatment was explained in detail and, thanks to her skill and expertise (as well as her patience!), I experienced no pain or discomfort whatsoever (no mean feat for someone whose legs shook so much during a previous root canal treatment that her sandals fell off!).

"It's The Best Thing I Have Ever Done"
“I met fellow dentist Teresa at a conference and she suggested that she could straighten my teeth with an appliance called Invisalign, a clear plastic brace which is almost invisible. I'd looked into getting my teeth straightened before but had been told by various orthodontists that it was a difficult job and I would have to wear head gear (a very unattractive metal device worn on the outside of the face and head). Teresa was my knight in shining armour.
I work in a very public and prestige sector of a very male dominated business, confidence is everything being a woman today in such an environment. It’s true but we are all human and judge on appearances first, the power suit, the hair and more importantly the face and smile are major factors.
I had lost all my confidence, never laughed unless my hand was in front of my face and in general it started to affect my whole personality. I had intense treatment for cancer and was ill for some time, following was a traumatic accident where I lost quite a few teeth and my front ones were in pretty bad shape due to life's traumas and diet..... Oh and coupled with a childhood fear of dentists I was getting nowhere fast.
I was persuaded by a dear friend of mine to visit a clinic in Chiswick, just for a little look and to gain an idea of what could be done. This world to me belonged to the Hollywood stars and couldn't possibly be the right place for me.
My first appointment and I nearly walked out from nerves and embarrassment, I was greeted first by a gorgeous chap who turned out to be Dr Neal Katz who beamed, bustled me into a chair and basically said, yep we can do so much for you and you know what, its a partnership all the way and we can go as quick or as steady as you like...... The words were such a relief and he made what was going to be a mammoth job seem like an enjoyable stroll in the park for him and his team. Needless to say there were tears, more of those to come.
In short he knew I was a case for THE Implant Guru of the UK and possibly Europe, Teresa at Appledore Dental Clinic Binfield. On the day again same story, I walked in and she was beaming at the challenge but oooozing with professional control which is just what I needed too.
A full plan was determined and they even went the extra mile to try and get as much done as possible within the budget I had to work with. The pain, what pain, uncomfortable not even this, I felt in control all the way and trust me when I tell you that I’ve had 6 extractions, the rest I'd lost all on the top. A temporary set were made whilst the implant posts took root and when this was fitted again tears of joy.
6 months later I have comments all the time and close friends say I’m back to my normal smiley Lotty, I’ve even been stopped on the tube from someone saying you have such a happy and beautiful face with a truly fantastic smile, yep secretly there were tears and each time I think of my Mother Theresa.
When the final implants were all fitted I rejoiced and pronounced that 'it was like going from plain underwear to the silk of La Perla', they are so silky smooth, straight and yes a great colour but very natural, what joy they have all brought to me."

"Teeth - an emotive subject
At an early age I was involved in an accident that resulted in the loss of my front teeth and cracked other teeth. When I was a little older I was issued with false teeth which is not a good if your only in secondary school - in addition false teeth play havoc if you like hubba-bubba chewing gum. However on positive note I could perform a realistic hand puppets shows with "real teeth" just aged 12.
In my mid teens I had a crown and bridge dental restoration so I could finally lose the false teeth and, to be honest, start to learn to smile again. This was wonderful news to me as a teenager, as being a few years older I was conscious of the real impact long term use of dentures at such a young age and how my teeth looked compared to others around me.
If we roll the clock forward some thirty years my teenage dental restoration started to fail combined with dental pain and bone loss due to missing teeth. I decided enough was enough and researched available options to replace my childhood dental restorations. The primary reason at that point was to simply to remove dental pain, to improve my teeth appearance, to keep things looking natural and if possible avoid having to have false teeth again.
My investigations ultimately led to a visit to the Appledore Clinic to meet Dr Teresa Day and her team and to view their facilities. I must admit to giving the what must of seemed like the third degree to Teresa with my follow up questions and concerns. However, I needed to confirm the background and experience of the surgery and understand fully the risks involved. Teresa alleviated all of my fears and after an additional evaluation visit a course of treatment was drawn up and agreed - that of a restoration using dental implants.
The treatment: During the implant process I experienced no pain or discomfort I was informed at all times what was about to happen and prompted if at any time I wanted to stop or felt discomfort just to raise my hand. Although my case was complex with multiple implants being placed at the same sitting on completion of surgery I sat up, popped in my temporary "teeth" and drove home and in fact I then went shopping for food.
The next day I only experienced very minor swelling and followed the post operation surgery advice of keeping the area clean while my bone fused to the implant surface and took an over-the-counter pain tablet if required. Throughout the whole period of healing I received regular checkups to ensure all was going to plan with the implants.
The next stage of the process was that of the restoration, where a post and temporary crown were attached to the implants - which now acts as your tooth root. It is at this point you get to "test drive" your all new temporary teeth and I started to hear start comments from people on how good they look.
Finally once my permanent crowns were ready for fitting the temps were removed - again no pain, and I was handed a mirror (as you have seen in all make over dentist programs) and I saw my new smile for the first time. A smile that (when I look back) I learnt as a young child and as I grew older my smile that as a teenager i had to hide.
Teeth can be very emotive subject and dentist surgeries seem a very scary place but thanks to the Appledore Clinic not any more. Since having my implant treatment I have now have moved all my dentistry to the Appledore clinic which is a testament to Teresa and her team by itself.
I hope that reading this may help towards your own decision for dental implants and that said I recommend the Appledore Clinic wholeheartedly for all you dentals needs.

"Previously Very Scared of the Dentist"
I was introduced to Appledore Dental Clinic in Binfield by my husband in 1993 when I was acutely dental phobic having lived through sixties dentistry (the 'drill it and fill it' brigade) and was terrified of undergoing even the simplest of treatments.
However, the relaxing atmosphere and the wonderful reception by Dr. Teresa Day and the staff put me at my ease, and I was very gradually persuaded that my fears were unfounded.
I have had numerous dental problems, the worst being an accident at work where several of my teeth were shattered and had to be removed.
Dr Day replaced the teeth with titanium implants, but for someone who was terrified of the dentist this was an ordeal of enormous proportions.
My wellbeing was paramount throughout and what was an extremely traumatic time was made much easier to cope with.
I am now able to visit the dentist without fear and am going to have my teeth whitened to complete my transformation.
I can't recommend Dr Day, her staff and Appledore Dental Clinic highly enough - this is state of the art dentistry as it should be - a pleasure to visit.

It was so nice speaking to you on our last visit, and I thought I would share with you our initial observations.
This was only our second visit to your practice, and as I said, myself and Pamela were so pleased with the way your team relate to their clients, and how you have created such a relaxing atmosphere from the moment you enter the clinic door.
Going to the dentist can be a stressful experience for many people, it always has been for me, and can be quite a nerve racking time.

"Fabulous Smile"
I write to congratulate the centre and in particular Neale Katz.
Having been a person extremely nervous of all dentistry, I have delayed work required on my bottom front teeth for about two years, some loose, some gaps, and unsightly etc, I have had splints to hold them, stick them, fill them, etc.
However when Neale became my dentist we discussed stop messing about and do the job properly once and for all. This required two extractions, four crowns and in all a 6 tooth bridge, the thought of this work made me extremely anxious, and of course there was the cost this is not inexpensive work, but eventually I decided to go for it.
With patience and time Neale and the staff guided me through it, almost no discomfort, and just two visits later I am the proud owner of a fabulous smile, I can bite into apples for the first time in many years, I love them, they look and feel great.
The cost, yes of course it was expensive , the best often is, but I know this quality will last long after the price is forgotten, my only regret is I didn’t do this years ago.

'It was a full year before anyone at work noticed that I was wearing my Invisalign, and then it was only the fact that my teeth were already looking better that made people comment.
I kept a travel toothbrush and trial size toothpaste in a small bag so I could give my teeth a quick brush after meals.
It has taken 3 years in total but when you consider my front teeth were almost at right angles I can't complain.
It has been well worth it - day to day Invisalign is really no big deal!
